My apartment has a Japanese toilet which is a bidet. However, it is variable about what you will be using when you are out. I learned quickly that you carry wipes or a pack of tissue to use. They do not flush paper as it clogs systems. Many toilets are squatty potties. A large hole in the floor where you squat to do your business. Then you flush. Handicapped bathrooms have Western toilets.
Here in Thailand they have squatty potties you but you use buckets of water to flush. Where there are Western toilets you will see this sign :
Funny.
At the hotel the western toilets have a spray hose for the bidet.
I am sure I have yet more to see.
When Michael went there, they were told to pack their own toilet paper because the venue (even in the dressing rooms) and public places didn’t have TP. When they were leaving, they were packing their stuff at the venue and had extra toilet paper. The people they were working with were checking to see if it was bought in China or brought from the US. They said did you think you were going to Africa -we have toilet paper here. LOL
I have actually been to bathrooms with a variety of arrangements. Some of the better public toilets are squatty potties but with a large roll of toilet paper when you walk in the outer door. You must take some in with you to the stall. Some have toilet paper in the stalls but this is not as common and mostly schools, large shopping malls, etc. That is little sheets of paper and not the roll of TP we are used to. I have been in some malls and in a lot of other places where not only is there squatty potties but there is no toilet paper anywhere. I have small travel size packets of toilet sheets that are sold much like out pocket packs of kleenex. Others buy a travel pack of wet wipes. Of course I have been running and hiking in western PA and have learned to go in the woods.
